Following a covert investigation, which began a few months ago, fraud investigators arrested two residents of Ashdod in their twenties earlier this month on suspicion of duplicating credit cards while withdrawing money by the cardholder and withdrawing about NIS 250,000 in total.
The investigation found that a chip was installed at the ATMs that copied the card data and a camera was installed in a hidden area of the keypad. After a number of hours the suspects would arrive, disassemble the data, burn it onto blank cards and withdraw money. During a search of the home of one of them, a debit card lab, dozens of counterfeit credit cards, ready to use and tens of thousands of shekels were uncovered. The Israel Police's Southern Claims Division is expected to file an indictment and a request for detention until the end of the proceedings.
