The city of Ashdod is the leader in the number of residents, immigrants from the former Soviet Union, who approached the Shorashim Center for Jewish Inquiry in order to prove their Jewishness for the purpose of marriage in the first half of 2019.

The organization obtained the necessary documents for 194 residents of Ashdod. In the same period last year, 138 requests for Jewish approval were submitted in the city. A nationwide total of 1515 inquiries were submitted, compared to 1442 in the same period last year. Haifa ranked second with 179 requests, followed by Rishon LeZion with 174 and Jerusalem with 159.
