Retired Israeli pole vaulter Aleks Averbukh has joined the Likud Party
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced the addition at an event to launch the party's immigration headquarters. The Irkutsk, Russia native competed in the Olympics, won silver and bronze medals at the World Track and Field Championships and won gold medals at the European Championships and the Maccabiah Games.
