In light of recent cases of abuse in day care centers for various age groups, the Herzliya municipality has announced that it will enact a municipal bylaw to provide tools to tighten supervision and control over private preschools. The law will require the installation of cameras in kindergartens, and a preschool will be opened only after firefighting, electricity and game-equipment safety permits are obtained. Herzliya Mayor Moshe Fadlon submitted a detailed plan of action on the subject to the interior minister and called on the minister to declare Herzliya's supervision plan a temporary order in all local authorities.
In Rishon Lezion, the mayor has also announced promotion of a decision to install cameras in all 40 municipal daycare centers, which would be connected via the Internet to the municipal supervision department. The municipality will work to distribute cameras for free - to any educational institution that wishes to do so. The cameras will provide educational supervision to more than 1,100 children aged 6 months to 3 years.
