The Ministry of Justice denies social media publications claiming that the Justice Ministry objected to a 12-year-old girl who was raped on the grounds that she was "defective" because of cognitive disabilities.
"It should be clarified that this is a civil procedure between the girl and some of the youths who harmed her, and the Ministry of Justice is not a party to this proceeding," the ministry said. "Furthermore, the State Attorney's Office acted vigorously in the framework of the criminal proceedings in order for the child to receive financial compensation from the defendants.
In addition, the statement attributed to the lawyer representing one of the accused youths in the civil procedure (an attorney appointed to the juvenile under the Legal Aid Law and according to the eligibility tests determined by law) is false and incorrect. The lawyer never called the girl 'defective' as claimed, "the Justice Ministry emphasized.
