Former Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked reacted to the incident in Kiryat Chaim last night, where an Ethiopian man was killed by gunfire by an off-duty policeman.

"I'd like to express my sorrow over the death of the young Solomon Takka who was killed by a policeman last night, and I expect, like many Israeli citizens, that the incident will be investigated by the PID in a serious and optimal manner," Shaked said.

"In the Justice Ministry under my leadership, considerable efforts were invested in the issue of over-enforcement against members of the Ethiopian community. We established a unit to combat racism and implemented the Palmor Report. As part of the recognition of the over-enforcement the President and I acted to pardon and expunging the criminal record of young Ethiopians, a process that I hope will continue and enable the correction of injustice that went on for decades," she added.
