Transportation Minister Bezalel Smotrich has told a meeting of the Knesset Finance Committee on the closing of Sde Dov Airport in Tel Aviv, "The field will [eventually] be uprooted, but there is an outline with zero prices and a minimum risk that will help the residents of Eilat."
Under his fast-track legislation, "the runway and a small area of the terminal will not be evacuated at the moment, but all the planning, marketing and executive procedures in relation to the area will continue exactly as it is, according to the [current] order. On the day that the first tractor will have to be on the runway, it too will be uprooted. We gain a minimum of 3 years. Smotrich concluded, "If the prime minister adopts this, the law can be passed within 48 hours. We need a substantive decision by the prime minister."
