The Histadrut Labor Federation and management of the Mekorot national water company signed an historic agreement Tuesday night that will allow it to embark on a structural reform at Mekorot and its Shaham subsidiary, for the first time in 40 years.

Under the reform, the State will transfer funds to companies for infrastructure and investment development, and the companies will increase their efficiency. The development of sources was necessitated by years of meager rains, which led to the severe depletion of natural water reservoirs. Under the agreement, which will be in effect until the end of 2025, 140 positions in the Company will be reduced with benefits to outgoing and remaining staff.
