The Supreme Court rejected, Sunday, a petition filed by the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel against the National Infrastructure Committee, and paved the way for the construction of 42 giant wind turbines in the Tel Peres area of the Golan Heights, near the area where birds of prey nest and live.
SPNI warned that the plan was approved without any means to ensure the safety of those birds from being killed by turbine blades. The decision was made a month and a half after the poisoning deaths of eight vultures in the Golan Heights, which, according to SPNI, "has greatly increased the importance of preserving every one of the few vultures that remain in the Golan Heights, and unfortunately we have to make do with and rely on the promises of the entrepreneurs."
