Most of the bus stations in Israel are not accessible to people with visual impairments, according to results of an examination conducted by Israel Defense Forces Radio in cooperation with the Or Yarok (Green Light) transportation safety organization on the occasion of Israel Blind Day 2019, published this morning.
Of the 116 stations that have been tested in 23 different municipalities around the country, only 18 stations show full information in Braille on the lines passing through the station, 30 show only partially, and no fewer than 68 stations show even one line. While the Transportation Ministry said the matter is the responsibility of the public transport operators, it is currently promoting the accessibility of information to the blind at certain stations and is launching a pilot project to implement new technology for accessible information via an application.
