The Meretz Party has responded to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's statement that "the State of Israel will not be a halakhic state," by saying, "OK. Everyone has his vision of dismantling democracy."
Netanyahu's pronouncement was in response to United Right Member of Knesset Bezalal Smotrich's announced aspiration to a state based on Torah Law. Writing on Twitter, Meretz said, "Smotrich wants an Iranian model and you are more connected to the Polish-Hungarian model."
