Chief of Staff General Aviv Kochavi was briefed in recent days on the combined attack at Ariel Square and the Giti Avisar junction where Rabbi Achiad Ettinger was murdered. First Sergeant Gal Kaidan was killed and another was wounded.
The Chief of Staff commended First Sergeant Gal Kaidan for struggling with the terrorist before his death, and the late Rabbi Ahiad Ettinger for his attempt to neutralize the terrorist.
The investigation revealed various failures relating to the operational discipline of the mixed-gender force, with slovenly procedures in preparing them for the mission, and below-par command control. The Chief of Staff pointed to the fact that the force behaved poorly during the incident itself and did not carry out what was expected of fighters in the scene of an attack. He did not relate to the fact that the force was of mixed gender or connect its performance with problems associated with such experimental units.
"Following this incident and others, we learned a series of lessons relating to combat fitness and the operational edge of the Judea and Samaria Division, and decided to take steps to improve the fighters' professional and mental capabilities."
