Following many local council heads who have adopted private initiatives to promote public transportation, Ramat Gan Mayor Carmel Shama Hacohen is expected to follow suit and operate public transportation on Saturdays and holidays.
On his Facebook page, Shama Hacohen conducted a survey in which he asked to examine the residents' position on the question of operating a network of transportation lines to weekend entertainment centers. He wrote, "The service was promised and will be carried out. The survey is another tool to examine demand to determine the amount of investment, the number of routes, the hours and the frequency." Deputy Mayor and local Shas Party Chairman, Menachem David, made it clear that he would fight the initiative.
