Facebook announced that it has identified and removed accounts set up a private Israel based initiative aimed at disrupting elections in various countries.

The company said that it has removed 65 accounts, 161 pages, and dozens of groups.

The accounts reportedly primarily were targeted at Sub-Saharan Africa with accounts pretending to be political candidates and peddled fake news about elections.

The pages had a collective following of over 2.8 million.

Facebook has since banned Archimedes, an Israeli company that was allegedly behind the campaign.
