Member of Knesset Betzalel Smotrich explained Thursday, in an interview with Israeli public radio, his insistence on enacting the immunity law for public officials despite public criticism.
Smotrich said, "The fear that the legal system will abuse its authority against the legislative or executive branch is an inherent concern. Therefore, the need to grant immunity is to neutralize this fear, that no one should be afraid that if he is going to be justice minister and to pass the [Supreme Court] override clause, he will not have a case built up against him."
