Science Minister Ofir Akunis (Likud) said at this morning's cabinet meeting: "Usually the Prime Minister asks for an extension and he gets it, and nearing the final day, he informs the President that he has succeeded. I believe the government will be sworn in in the first week of June.

"The press's concern about the next government is touching. It's clear that there will be a government. The Prime Minister is asking for an extension and he will also receive it. Near the last day he informs the President that he has succeeded in forming a government. I estimate that the government will be sworn in in the last week of June, the latest."

Referring to the American peace plan, Akunis said, "The Palestinians are the obstacle to peace, and the one who obstructs any initiative is the Palestinians ... I assume the American initiative will also fail."
