In the military cemeteries around the country, ceremonies marking the anniversary of Israel's fallen soldiers ended before noon.
The Department of Families and Commemoration in the Defense Ministry reports that over 1.5 million people participated in the 52 official ceremonies in the military cemeteries and in hundreds of other ceremonies in the military plots throughout the country, in monuments and settlements from Kiryat Shmona to Eilat. The military cemetery on Mount Herzl, in Jerusalem, was visited by more than 120,000 people. The Department of Commemoration and Heritage Families in the Defense Ministry reports about half-million surfers lit memorial candles on the Yizkor site, in memory of the fallen.
Defense Ministry Family, Commemoration, and Heritage Division Deputy Director Aryeh Moalem said: "This is the beautiful hour of Israeli society, in which the citizens of Israel remember and remember the 23,741 holy martyrs of Israel's wars. I call upon the public to continue to commemorate the fallen at the Yizkor website. We salute the fallen and we will continue to embrace the bereaved families all year round."
