The Committee of University Heads petitioned the Supreme Court on Thursday against Science Minister Ofir Akunis, demanding that he cancel his decision from last year to invalidate the appointment of Professor Yael Amitai to the Germany-Israel Foundation for Research and Scientific Development.
Akunis's decision was because of a petition Amitai signed in 2005 supporting soldiers who refused to serve beyond the 1949 Armistice Line. The petitioners argue that "Akunis chooses to use the powers given him to promote political goals."
