Mayor Ibrahim Al Karaki of western Jordanian Dead Sea-area city of Kerak has brushed off criticism on social media, after he was seen helping Israeli travelers on the eve of the second Passover holiday to enter a stream bed in the area, even though the tourist police forbade entry, according to the Israel Public Broadcasting Corporation.

Immediately after the incident in question, Mayor Al Karaki told the IPBC "What I did was in accordance with a personal demand and my conscience." Responding on Facebook to the criticism, the mayor noted, "They did not carry weapons, did not make hostile slogans, and didn't make a big deal of their identity. They are tourists, just like the rest of the tourists."
