The mayor of Pruchnik, Poland said on Tuesday, in response to the beating and burning of a Jewish effigy in his town, "The enemies of the Polish people may use this story as proof of the alleged anti-Semitism of our people," according to the Israel Public Broadcasting Corporation.
He countered, "The truth is that many people in the town helped the Jews during the Second World War."
