The Western Wall Heritage Foundation carried out a comprehensive examination of the stability of the Western Wall stones twice a year, on the eve of Passover and the eve of Rosh Hashanah, including the area of the Wilson Arch.
During the examination, the walls are cleaned from various objects that the birds bring and loose stones and plaster between the stones are removed.
The foundation notes that the lower part of the wall built of the original stones has a phenomenon of stone corrosion. This year several "shells" have been removed. In order to solve this, the conservationists absorb the peeling stone with natural lime (stone consolidation) bonding material. This strengthens the layers and stops the peeling.
