The Wall Street Journal has cited United States officials as saying the US military is crafting plans to keep nearly 1,000 forces in Syria.
The new estimate, half of the current presence, comes three months after President Donald Trump's complete withdrawal, which was later revised to hundreds. It would allow continuing to partner with Kurdish forces, in defiance of Turkey.
