The Israel Prison Service began disrupting cellular communications in the Ramon and Ketziot prisons in the south in the last few days to foil the use of cellphones that have been smuggled in to security prisoners, according to Walla!.
The IPS and the security establishment are afraid of terrorist attacks being directed from inside the prisons to terrorist organizations, especially Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Prisoner spokesman have quit and the prisoners are threatening a hunger strike. The IPS has reinforced its staff at the two prisons and is considering extending the action to other security prisons.
