The European Union's ambassador to Israel, Emanuele Giaufret, and the European Union's envoy for religious freedom, Jan Figel, arrived Thursday morning at the office of Israel's Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi and President of the Rabbinical Court, Rabbi Lau.
The meeting was also attended by Chief Sephardic Rabbi of Israel Rabbi Moshe Dagan and Attorney Yaron Katan. The chief rabbi told the European emissary that it is not acceptable that in many European countries, Jews are afraid to walk on a street with a kippah or have limits placed on ritual slaughter and circumcision.
The European envoys said they understood their duties, every Jew must be able to act according to the custom of his religion without any fear.
