Professor Dan Shechtman, Nobel laureate in chemistry, was the guest of honor at the inauguration ceremony of the "Responsibility for the Founders" party.
Stressing that he was not a candidate, Prof. Shechtman gave a critical speech about the Israeli education system, and especially about accepting students for teaching without proper screening, saying, "The teachers are the most important people in the country, so they have to be sorted out before the training. Today, the training is being completed by teachers who are not worthy." He added, "The world of the future belongs to the educated, and we must see to it. We must teach science from an early age, and I call on mayors in Israel to adopt this plan."
