Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, has responded with shock to vandalism of the Siach Yisrael synagogue in Kiryat Yovel which included the destruction of holy books and the throwing of Torah scrolls on the floor.
Rabbi Yosef continued, "All those who have been exposed to the atrocity must undertake a personal fast or redeem it with charity, and any Jew whose honor of the Torah is precious to him, will take upon himself a day of study of Torah, refraining from speech to increase and strengthen the glory of the Torah which was desecrated."
