Israel has jumped to fifth place on the Bloomberg website's innovation index.
Last year, the Jewish state was in 10th place and overtook Singapore, Sweden and Japan. China climbed from 19th to 16th place. For both China and Israel, the main factor raising the rating was patent registration. South Korea held on to first place, followed by Germany, Finland and Switzerland. The Bloomberg index weighs various elements, including investment in research and development, manufacturing capacity and concentration of public high-tech companies.
