Aviv Kochavi is scheduled to be raised this morning at a limited ceremony at the base of the General Staff in the Kirya national government complex in Tel Aviv to the rank of lieutenant general and will become the 22nd chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces.
Immediately afterward, outgoing Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot will pass the IDF's banner to Kochavi and with it officially transfer the command of the army to him in a ceremony held in the presence of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Binyamin Netanyahu. More ceremonies will follow in Jerusalem.
