Likud Central Committee member Mordechai Benita announced Thursday that he intends to contend for the place reserved for the Jerusalem District on the Likud list for the 21st Knesset.

A member of the Likud for the past 15 years, he also serves on the Likud's election committee. The 51-year-old resident of the Maale Zeitim neighborhood on the Mount of Olives has served for many years as the director of the Ateret Yerushalayim Yeshiva in the Muslim Quarter of Jerusalem's Old City. He also serves on the Machon Meir Institute's board of directors.
