Chief Justice Esther Hayut said today, "It is appropriate that we recite to ourselves, day and night, a section of the rules of ethics that states that 'a judge shall not live against anyone and shall not be affected by the performance of his duties by public opinion, fear of criticism or a desire to please.'"

Speaking during a swearing-in ceremony for judges at the President's Residence, Hayut rejected criticisms of a disconnection between the justice system and citizens of the state and claims that judges live in an ivory tower, saying, "These statements are very far, in my eyes, from the reality of things as they are."
