Martin Indyk: Golan sovereignty contrary to Israel's commitments

Former United States ambassador to Israel Martin Indyk asked, Monday evening, "On what legal basis does Netanyahu claim a right to sovereignty on the Golan Heights? Israel’s acceptance of UNSC Resolutions 242 and 338 committed Israel to swap territory for peace and rule out the acquisition of territories occupied by force in the June 1967 war."

Writing on Twitter, Indyk added, "Annexation of the Golan would also negate the 1974 Israel-Syria Disengagement Agreement which was 'a step towards a just and durable peace on the basis of Security Council resolution 338.'" Indyk noted, "Bibi recently called on the Syrian government to respect its obligations under this accord."
