The Likud responded to the attack by former judge Eliahu Matza against Prime Minister Netanyahu:

"It is ridiculous to call 'incitement' practical criticism by the Prime Minister of the strange legal process being conducted against him in the matter of the hearing. After all, there's no precedent when they opened a hearing against a public figure during an election period and didn't allow him to present his answers at the hearing until the elections. There's also no precedent for the astonishing haste in which the decision on the hearing was made within a few days, in contrast to basic discussions lasting 18 months on average in similar cases.

"It is clear that the insistence on hastily bringing half the information before the elections, which the Prime Minister is complaining about, is a gross interference in the elections.

"The Supreme Court rightly avoided intervening in a political quagmire and it's regrettable that a former judge was dragged into the media campaign aimed at toppling Prime Minister Netanyahu and to raise a leftist government."
