Amira Oron, Israel's ambassador-designate to Cairo, has visited the Sephardic Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, to receive his blessing in preparation for her appointment.
The rabbi asked the ambassador to act to preserve the assets of Jewish communities that flourished in Egypt. He also sought to renew the permit for Jews to ascend to the grave of Rabbi Yaakov Abuhatzeira, who is buried in Damanhur. Oron promised to act on the matter and said that she was receiving an attentive ear from the Egyptian authorities and that she would do everything in order to make the request a reality.
