A senior Israeli source was quoted on Sunday on the Saudi news website Elaph as saying that following the outbreak of the civil war in Syria, Israel had many opportunities to assassinate President Bashar Al-Assad and senior officials in his regime.
According to the source, who was not named, the Israeli leadership chose to refrain from such actions, because it preferred to have a clear address in Syria to which messages could be conveyed.
