The Knesset Labor, Welfare, and Health Committee headed by MK Eli Elalouf approved in second and third readings a bill by MK Uri Maklev and other MKs granting women workers undergoing fertility treatments 40 hours of absence for medical examinations and procedures.
Until now absence for fertility treatments has been counted at the expense of sick leave, but the law states an employee will not receive payment for the first sick day. Therefore, in most cases, a worker did not receive pay for absence from work for treatments that usually require a number of hours of absence or entire workdays at a time.
