A Ministry of Transportation report on Route 232 connecting the Kerem Shalom crossing to Nitzanim says the chances of accidents occurring there are seven times higher than other roads in Israel, according to Israel Defense Forces Radio. The chances of truck involvement in an accident on this road are six times higher.
More than 2,000 trucks a day carry cargo to the crossing for transfer to Gaza. A young man who crossed the road near Kibbutz Mefalsim was seriously injured last night. Between 2014 and 2017 there were 65 accidents on this road. In 43% of the cases, trucks were involved.
