Mayor Shay Alon of Beit El, whose residents generally use the Givat Asaf Junction to get home from Highway 60, has responded to the serious attack at the junction by calling for a ban on Palestinian Authority traffic on highways used by Israelis.
Alon said "This is a very difficult incident, and the IDF knows how to be bolder than it is allowed, but unfortunately the political echelon is holding it back. I call on the same political echelon to stop everything and to re-think its open-road policy. It is inconceivable that week after week we have a shooting incident with fatalities on the roads. We have to close the roads to the Palestinians immediately, and we will fight for it with all our might."
