Member of Knesset Amir Peretz has called the report published by the Latet food-saving organization, according to which 533,000 households live in poverty, "a certificate of poverty for the government. The situation in which Israel is a rich country and over one million of its children are poor is a stain on the country's forehead. The continued abandonment of these children is also the abandonment of economic and technological realization potential in every child as he grows up, because poor and hungry children cannot realize their potential."
Peretz continued, "The state has the means to eradicate poverty, and it must stop abandoning the care of those have-notes to organizations and welfare organizations. They are doing holy work, but this is the role of the state.
This is the difference between compassion and charity and social justice."
