Police have arrested a resident of Beit Shemesh in his forties who spotted women on social networks in order to have romantic contact with them and take their money.
A covert investigation began after a complaint was filed against the suspect by a woman who gave him 400,000 shekels over the period of a few months after he allegedly gave her false representation regarding his medical condition and other issues for which he owed large amounts of money. The police investigation led to the identification of other women and to exposing the suspect's pattern of behavior, which "trapped" mainly women from the religious and haredi-religious sector. On Monday, police raided his home in Beit Shemesh and detained him for questioning on a litany of charges. This morning he will be brought before the Magistrates Court in Jerusalem to extend his detention.
