Israel's ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General and to the UN Security Council demanding that it disarm Hezbollah's terrorist tunnels and hold the Lebanese government "responsible for destabilizing the region."
In his letter, Danon wrote that "Hezbollah is trying to advance an Iranian agenda in order to turn southern Lebanon into a launching pad for attacks that threaten the lives of innocent Israelis at the risk of Lebanon and its citizens ... Israel is not interested in escalation but will take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and its citizens."
In light of the violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, Danon wrote, "The Lebanese government must comply with its international obligations and fully implement Security Council resolutions."
"The construction of Hezbollah's terror tunnels, along with ongoing efforts to transfer weapons and manufacture precision rockets, all of which are funded by Iran, constitute a flagrant violation of Israel's sovereignty, and are another step in Hezbollah's efforts to strengthen the military and destabilize the already unstable region."
