Hamas officials claim Israeli special forces they intercepted last month posed as medical aid workers, using “detailed but fake” identity cards of real Gaza citizens, according to Britain's Independent newspaper.
A Hamas spokesman said those whose identities had been used were detained for questioning but released “as they genuinely knew nothing." He denied recent reports that the Israeli squad had successfully set up and was operating a non-governmental organization within Gaza. Another Hamas official, who asked to remain anonymous as he is not permitted to speak to the media, said the Israeli forces were in Gaza to replace listening and surveillance devices that had been laid before.
