On the occasion of the International Day for the Rights of People with Disabilities, the Central Bureau of Statistics published data on persons with severe functional disabilities in Israel aged 20 and over, based on self-evaluation of the interviewees in the Social Survey 2017.

The data indicate that 1.5 million people with disabilities live in Israel, which is 18% of the general population and 21% of the adult population. 16% of them are children up to the age of 15, 51% of whom are of working age, and 33% of them are elderly people aged 65 and over. It also shows that 15% of those aged 20 and over have a severe functional disability, approximately 818,000 people - 16% of the women and 14% of the men.
