The American Jewish Congress on Saturday expressed condolences over the death of President George H. W. Bush, who passed away on Friday at the age of 94.
“He was instrumental in bringing thousands of Jews to safety by helping them out of the Soviet Union, Ethiopia and Syria, and he made Soviet Jewry one of his signature issues at the UN. May President Bush’s dedication to public service be an example to all Americans and may his efforts to save Jews in lands where they were persecuted, continue inspiring the work of thousands of activists around the world,” it said in a statement.
