The "Israeli Judaism" Project of the Jewish People Policy Institute, which is based on an extensive survey of Jews in Israel, shows that almost three out of every four Jews in Israel (73 percent) say they light Hanukkah candles "every evening" of the eight-day observance.
That's 97 percent among the orthodox, 86 percent among the traditional and 71 percent among the secular and slightly traditional. The only group whose members light only "some of the evenings" are those who define themselves as "completely secular." Even in this group, which numbers slightly more than a quarter of the Jews in Israel (28 percent), there is little preference for "some of the evenings (44 percent), compared to those who light every evening (40 percent).
