Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat has filed a 150,000-shekel libel suit against the Israel Public Broadcasting Corporation following the broadcasting of a report claiming that Barkat's support of Moshe Leon in the second round of the mayoral elections was conditional on support from the local Likud branch for Barkat in the Likud primaries.
According to Barkat, this claim is a complete lie and a rumor that there is nothing behind it. In the words of the suit, "From this report, it is possible to understand, even implicitly, that Nir Barkat is cynically and vulgarly selling the future of Jerusalem, the capital of Israel, in order to gather a few votes among Likud members."
