Rabbi Shalom Ber Sorotzkin and a handful of other activists gathered today at the entrance to Ben-Gurion Airport and ripped the Platinum cards from El Al's Frequent Flyer Club, after he threatened to boycott the airline over its handling of a flight that had to land in Athens, two Fridays ago, to avoid Sabbath desecration.
Sorotzkin said, "The expectation is that the company's leaders will recognize the problematic conduct of that flight and the false campaign of incitement that followed, and will publish an apology for the aggravation and deterioration caused to the haredibh public." The head of the Ateret Shlomo Institute said that more than 180 directors of institutions have decided for the time being to boycott El Al and frequent flyer tickets.
