The Jerusalem District Court has accepted an appeal filed by the Department for the Investigation of Police in the State Prosecutor's Office and convicted a detective officer in the Moriah area of assaulting detainees in January 2016. The Jerusalem Magistrates Court had ruled that the officer had committed an offense of assault, but decided not to convict him and sentenced him to public service.
The officer was convicted of attacking the detainees at the police station, handcuffed and facing the wall, in front of his subordinates who saw what happened. The detainees were among a group of students at a yeshiva in the Giv'at Shaul neighborhood who attacked detectives who came to check up on a student who was under house arrest there.
