Police spokeswoman Meirav Lapidot said on Thursday that the Committee for Appointing Senior Public-Service Officials did not ask outgoing commissioner Roni Alsheikh about a recommendation on successor candidate Moshe Edri or about an occupational polygraph test for Edri.

Interviewed by Israeli public radio, Lapidot said criticism about the committee's demand for a lie-detector test should be directed to the committee. She explained, "The law clearly states that a police commissioner does not have to undergo a polygraph. If the committee decided correctly or not, it's the committee's decision. There are piles of spins. Alsheikh really thinks Edri is an excellent officer."
