Channel 10 Television reports about half of the 35 women murdered in the past two years due to domestic violence had complained to the police, according to data released today by the Knesset's Information and Research Center, ahead of the deliberations of the Committee on the Status of Women and Gender Equality to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

According to the data, in the last two years, 11,800 domestic violence cases were opened each year. 69 percent of the cases were opened following complaints by women, about 20 percent of the cases are mutual complaints, and 11 percent of the cases were opened as a result of complaints by a man towards a woman. About three quarters of these cases were closed, most of them for lack of evidence. Last year, 2,600 indictments were filed, and 2,800 in 2016.
