Director-General Gonen Ussishkin of El Al has decided to set up a committee of inquiry following last week's weather-related delayed takeoff of flight LY 002 from New York to Tel Aviv, leading to a decision to land the plane in Athens and avoid desecration of the Sabbath.
Ussishkin said he received dozens of claims and testimonies about the flight, some of which "emphasized the confusion on the flight, while others claimed that the information provided by the EL AL staff to passengers was wrong." Backing the professionalism of his staff, he said a goal of the inquiry is to learn from the incident and avoid a recurrence.
